Embracing Change: A Birth Story
When I met Kim and Cece, I was instantly blown away by there genuine love for one another. Casual, loving, open, kind humans that welcomed me into their home and trusted me to document and support the beginnings of their journey into parenthood.
Baby K just turned 6 months old and in celebration, Kim shared her birth story on social media. Below are her words and with the exception of one or two, a collection of images that she selected to help tell her story.
Please take some time to enjoy their journey and witness their power as they navigated long hours and many changes with grace, humor and humility.
So honored to know you Kim, Cece and Baby K. xoxo
Day 1
The day our labor story begun…it was July 9th, 2020. My water broke which meant it was time to head to the birth center.
Prior to this journey I had no idea what a Doula even was; however, knowing what I know now, there’s no way I would do this again without the support of a Doula. No, scratch that, I wouldn’t do it without the support of Lindsey. You’re amazing girl! Thanks for your support during my amazing 37 hour labor story.
Huge shout out to the real MVP’s my birth team: My wife, my doula, and the entire staff at Seasons Midwifery & Birth Center (especially Valorie and Aubre)
Day 2
All of a sudden, no more contractions!! We walked, we tried natural teas and exercises. We even tried nipple stimulation (OH THAT WORKED!)
24 hours into my labor, my contractions STOPPED AGAIN…this time my doula and midwife advised it was time for medical intervention.
This mean transferring to the hospital. No more birth center birth. Through it all I was grateful to learn that my midwife and doula were going to join me at the hospital and my midwife would still deliver my baby.
I got to the hospital and immediately they started me on Pitocin to start my contractions.
PS: that Pitocin ain’t no joke!
Day 3
After 37 hours of labor, our baby boy arrived.
My contractions continued throughout the day and night, however, I wasn’t dilating. As they increased the Pitocin, my baby’s heart rate began to drop. Increasing my Pitocin was the only way to get me to dilate. His heart rate had dropped more than once and continuing the ‘natural’ route would only put him in danger.
At about the 35th hour, my team and I opted to go for a cesarean birth, and at 1:23am we welcomed our beautiful baby boy!
Talk about resilience. Through all its many changes, I am truly in love with my birth story. I can’t thank Lindsey enough for capturing such precious moments.
